Ask the Marshmallow Bunny

I’m writing this on a Monday after having enjoyed a lovely weekend of honey-glazed ham topped off with dozens of tiny tin foil-wrapped chocolate eggs.

I refrained, however, from other holiday treats of my youth, having set them aside in my wisdom (and because my tongue has developed more “grownup” tastes.) You’ll remember them as those pink and yellow sugarcoated marshmallow bunnies. By the time you read this, rigor mortis will have long taken claim to those uniquely Easter-time sweets.

Before bed last night, I emailed a friend. I remembered learning from her last year that her Orthodox Easter was later than mine. Proud of myself for remembering, I wished her a happy upcoming holiday. She responded with Easter wishes for me and then politely informed me that the Eastern Orthodox celebration was the same day this year as the Western Christian holiday. Who knew? Not me. The Eastern Orthodox prefer the Julian calendar. Westerners use the Gregorian calendar. Maybe I should have known that.
